Ellen and Bernd Marquart´s twelveth production is a collection of recordings in one of their favorite settings, the duo formation. 12 compositions with vocal, piano, trumpet, and flugelhorn including the dramatic ballad "Django" and quiet ballad "If You Would Be Here", a breath of bossa nova in "Sweet Spring" and elements of cuban jazz in "Long Long Summer", straight-forward swing in "Blues For Us " and "Alone Togther", and original pieces like the extended version of "Homeland" display the exciting variety of jazz music this duo makes.

Ellen´s romantic vocals are the kind that "get under your skin", and her elegant piano solos are perfectly paired with Bernd´s virtuoso trumpet and flugelhorn improvisations. Die Musik auf Love Songs ist Jazz, beeinflußt von den amerikanischen Standard-Songs und Latin. Die lateinamerikanischen Stücke greifen die Musik des brasilianischen Bossa- Nova-Genius Antonio Carlos Jobim auf. Im feurigen Titel Hello, Venus... Goodbye, Mars sind eher kubanischen Klänge zu hören. Die Harmonisation und die cleveren Texte von My Imagination, I Love und A Day With You erinnern an die amerikanischen Standard-Songs.
Love Songs is jazz, influenced by Latin-American music and the American song-standard. The Latin-American factor is most obviously the music of the Brasilian bossa nova genius Antonio Carlos Jobim but there are also noticable Cuban influences in the spicy Hello,Venus... Goodbye, Mars. The harmonization and clever lyrics of My Imagination, I Love, and A Day With You remind one of the American song-standards jazz musicians have been interpreting for years.
